- Know the exact name and spelling of your medication since many products sound alike or have similar spellings.

- The detection of the presence of a Prohibited Substance in a specimen is deemed a doping offense even if the substance is not one that is specifically listed as an example on the WADA list.

- Even when a Prohibited Substance is used for a legitimate medical treatment with a prescription or other medical authorization, the presence of that Prohibited Substance, its Metabolites, or Markers in a specimen is deemed a doping violation, unless your International Federation or USADA has approved an Abbreviated or Standard TUE.

- The commonly held belief that the government approves all vitamins, minerals, herbs, amino acids and other dietary supplements, which are sold over the counter or through the Internet, is not correct. Some of these products contain prohibited substances. Athletes who take these do so at their own risk.
