| DEFINITION OF STATUS OF A MEDICATION |

The drug requires an Abbreviated Therapeutic Use Exemption. This restriction applies to: |
- Corticosteroids used by inhalation, iontophoresis, intra-articular injections, and local injections. Topical preparations of corticosteroids are permitted (nasal sprays, eye drops, ear solutions and skin treatments).

- Four beta-2 agonists (foradil, salbutamol/albuterol, salmeterol, and terbutaline). These four substances are allowed only by inhalation both in-competition and out-of-competition. Uses of all beta-2 agonists by other means of administration is prohibited.

Prohibited In Competition
Prohibited In-Competition means the drug can not be used in a competition. Athletes must allow sufficient time before the actual competitive event to allow the substance to clear so none remains in the body. |
Prohibited – Threshold (Prohibited above a certain concentration)
The substance is prohibited but is only reported by the laboratory if detected above a certain concentration. |
What is the purpose of the Search Reference Number?
Each search and its results are recorded in the database. The search reference number allows USADA to go back to review and verify the search and results. |
| The DRO is intended to protect the rights of the individual and therefore it does not record personal identifiers. The only way it records responses to inquiries is with the reference number. This is also the only way that your search can be traced. For your own information, you may also print the results page. It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that you record the reference number shown on the search result page. |
How do I interpret the result?
The results page contains very important information. You should always check the following before logging off: |
- The database has found the correct substance and brand (check the spelling of the substance or brand with that of your medication).

- The database has recognized the correct sport and discipline.

- The database has given you a unique reference number.

- That the individual active ingredients listed on the result page are the same as those that appear on the medication you are taking.

- That the definitions for the status of the medication are understood, and that you are looking at the status of the brand, not its individual components.

- Verify if an Abbreviated TUE is needed.
How do I print the results?
Use the print icon at the top of the page to print the results page for your records. |
What if the medication I am inquiring about is not in the USADA DRO?
If you cannot find your substance or medication in the DRO, you can begin by: |
- Verifying the spelling of the medication/substance matches the name printed on the label.

- Verifying the medication/substance is licensed in the U.S. and is not a supplement or a product manufactured in another country.
| If you have checked these points and still have not fulfilled your inquiry, please call the USADA Drug Reference Line [(800) 233-0393 within the U.S. or (719) 785-2020 outside the U.S.] or e-mail USADA. |
